Beer and Infographics DO mix

I’ve been tinkering with Adobe InDesign and Illustrator. These programs are very powerful but can be equally as frustrating to manipulate – much more manageable after a couple beers.

I put together this standalone document to illustrate the rise of the craft and microbrewery industry. The content is engaging but I’m most interested in your thoughts on the formatting and design. Don’t worry about holding any punches – this is an early shot at the tool and feedback is helpful.

Thanks and here is the PDF:

  1. Hi Colin,

Pretty good! My suggestion is to cut back on the content, though. It is pretty busy right now (with lots of logos, text, and a data chart). Could you bring it down to one page with a couple major take-aways?

  2. Colin –

Beer and design always mix. If it didn’t the world would much less design 🙂

I’d suggest using Keynote to design infographics if you have or have access a Mac – I use it for all but the heaviest design lifting. It’s really intuitive and will get you a lot farther a lot faster than anything Adobe makes. I’d suggest using Illustrator to process graphics and pngs if needed.

Personally, I’d throw InDesign in the garbage because it’s awful for almost everything, especially if you’re using a mouse and not a digital pen or Wacom tablet http://www.wacom.com/en/us/ . If you have the patience to learn it more power to you, but Keynote is where it’s at.
